Admission Requirements For Undergraduate Programs
- An applicant should have at least second division both in SSC & HSC Exams or minimum GPA 2.50 in both the exams or equivalent exams ( GPA 5.00). But if any student gets at least 2.00 in any exam, he/she has to get total GPA at least 6.00 in both the exams.
- An ‘O’ level student must have at least five subjects in ‘O’ level exam and an ‘A’ level student must have at least two subjects in ‘A’ level exam. Out of at least seven subjects of those ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level exams, the student must have B grade or GPA 4.0 in the exam, of four subjects and C grade or GPA 3.5 in remaining three subjects.
- Applicants who have passed HSC/Alim or equivalent or A level or equivalent examinations within the last four years are eligible to apply.
- For admission to Faculty of Science and Technology, students must have had Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in HSC/A-Level or equivalent level.
- For the wards of freedom fighters a student must have total GPA 5.0 in SSC and HSC or equivalent public exams.
- Credit transferred students will be able to get admission to an undergraduate / graduate program of NWU.
- GED result will not be accepted.
Admission Requirements For Graduate Programs
- For graduate program, a student should have at least a Bachelor’s degree. A relevant Bachelor Degree with at least second divisions/classes in all previous exams or undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a GPA of 2.00 or above in a scale of 4.00.
- Credit transferred students will be able to get admission to an undergraduate / graduate program of NWU.
Papers/Documents Requirement During Admission
- Original and Photocopies of all academic Transcripts, Certificates and Testimonials
- Job Experience certificate for EMBA and other relevant Programs
- 5 Copies of coloured passport size recent photographs (with formal dress)
- Photocopy of National ID Card / Birth Registration / Passport.
Credit Transfer Policy
This Credit Transfer Policy of North Western University (NWU) has been recommended in the Meeting of the 26th Academic Council held on March 21, 2022 subject to the approval of the Syndicate.
The following Credit Transfer Policy / Principle are being proposed for a student who intends to transfer from another University or equivalent institute in the world.
- Intending student will submit an application in the prescribed form along with such documents as an Original Incomplete Transcript of Academic Records from the previous University / Institution and a complete syllabus of the subject that are applied to be credited.
- A student to be admitted in to North Western University with Credit Transfer will be considered for admission on the basis of the result of admission test and courses completed at any other Public, Private University or equivalent Institute of the world.
- Credit will be transferable, provided that course work has been completed and is equivalent to that offered at North Western University
- A Course can be considered as a waiver course if the syllabus of the course of the student’s previous University has a similarity of a maximum of 60% with the syllabus of North Western University.
- The grade of the waiver course credit should be at least B grade in any subject.
- Credit transfer / Course waiver may also be allowed in case of transfer from one academic program to another within North Western University on recommendation from the equivalent committee.
- A Maximum of sixty-five percent (65%) of completed Credit hours in a previous University for the intended program may be accepted.
- A Charge of Tk. 200/- (Taka two hundred only) per Credit Hour for Credit Transfer / waiver will have to be paid by the student concerned.
- A Certificate of Transfer / No Objection Certificate from a previous University / Institute is to be submitted at the time of Admission to NWU.
- Any Student who will transfer Credits from another University will not be eligible for the Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal of NWU.
- The details of Courses Transferred from other Universities will not be mentioned in the Transcript of this University, only the course code, the Course title, and Credit will be mentioned but a separate sheet will be provided with the Transcript of NWU where the accepted course, no and course title with credit of previous University / Institute will be mentioned.
- The Credits accepted as Transfer from other Universities will be subject to the approval of the Academic Council and Syndicate of North Western University.
- Credit accepted as a Transfer from another University will be counted towards the degree, except for the calculation of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

About North Western University (NWU), Khulna
North Western University, Khulna the first full-fledged private university in Khulna, Bangladesh was established on the 18th November, 2012. The University started Academic Activities from Spring Semester, 2013.
The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh approved the establishment of North Western University under Private University Act. 2010.
The University started its activities with 4 Faculties, 12 Departments, 67 full time teachers, 61 part time teachers and 489 students. At present the University consists of 4 Faculties, 14 Departments. The number of students and teachers have risen to about 3400 and 140 respectively.
The first fresh admission classes had 489 students enrolled in 12 Departments: Business Administration 62 students, BA Hons in English 9 students, MA in English 5 students, LLB 10 students, MBA-1 Year 27 students, EMBA 31 students, MBA-2 Year 11 students, MDS 7 students, Computer Science & Engineering 92 students, Electrical & Electronic Engineering 150 students, Civil Engineering 84 students.
The main purpose of the University was to create new areas of knowledge and disseminate this knowledge to the society through its students. Since its inception the University has a distinct character of having distinguished scholars as faculties who have enriched the global pool of knowledge by making notable contributions in the fields of teaching and research.
The high standard of education and research for the University was set by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khondoker Bazlul Hoque.
According to the provision of the Private University Act-2010, Talukder Abdul Khaleque is the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees, North Western University and North Western University Trust. The Board of Trustees (BOT), the apex body which provides the overall policy guidelines and approves annual budget of the University, is headed by its Chairman.
The Vice-Chancellor, as the chief executive and academic officer runs the university with the cooperation of the statutory bodies operating under the provision of the Private University Act. 2010. The Registrar maintains the university records including admissions, keeps liaison with Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission (UGC) and other relevant authorities. The Controller of Examinations deals with all functions relating to preservation of records of Examinations, preparation and publication of results, processing confidential papers etc.
NWU has the authority, under its Charter, to impart education and confer undergraduate and graduate degrees in all branches of arts, business and sciences, including engineering and law. Currently, NWU offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 16 subjects (10 Bachelor’s degrees and 6 Master’s degrees).
The university follows the North American academic system with all its distinctive features-semesters, credit hours, letter grades, one examiner system and so on. Its curricula, when first introduced, were reviewed by relevant departments of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and University of California at Berkeley, USA, and duly approved by University Grants Commission, Bangladesh. The academic programs are continually updated and adapted to meet the changing needs of the country.
Prof. Dr. Md. Bazlar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor is providing leadership in improving, expanding and diversifying various academic programs. NWU now has 76 (fulltime) faculty members. All faculty members have higher degrees from reputed domestic and foreign universities.
North Western University is dedicated to the advancement of learning, and is committed to promoting research in all fields of knowledge. As there are plans for further expansion of facilities, plans for new avenues and opportunities, the course curricula are updated and new research projects are undertaken every year. As the pioneer and the highest seat of learning in the country, the University has taken the task of fostering the transformation processes of the individual students and the country as a whole through its educational and research facilities keeping pace with the demands of the day.
